Stepping Stones Crisis Society is seeking a Community Outreach Specialist to join their team, based in Cold Lake AB. Stepping Stones is dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by domestic violence and crisis situations. They offer a range of services, including emergency shelter, education, and advocacy, all aimed at empowering our clients to overcome their challenges and achieve long-term stability and safety.
The Community Outreach Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the mission of Stepping Stones by providing direct support, education, and advocacy for individuals impacted by family violence and crisis situations.
This position is Full-time, Monday- Friday, with weekends as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments to identify needs, strengths, and safety concerns, and develop personalized support plans.
- Provide outreach services and ongoing support to clients within the shelter and those accessing non-residential services.
- Provide guidance to clients individually, in families, or small groups to enhance coping strategies and mobilize personal and community resources.
- Facilitate and lead group sessions focused on personal growth, such as communication, stress management, and conflict resolution.
- Maintain regular contact with clients through telephone, email, and in-person meetings to provide consistent follow-up services.
- Offer advocacy and referrals to community resources, legal support, health services, and other agencies as needed.
- Develop and deliver engaging presentations and workshops for diverse audiences, including schools, community groups, and organizations.
- Create and implement initiatives to increase public awareness of family violence, healthy relationships, and bullying.
- Represent Stepping Stones at community events, fairs, and Family Violence Prevention Month initiatives to promote awareness and outreach.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Registered Social Worker (Degree), post-secondary education in a related field
- 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role and/or working knowledge of the dynamics of family violence, addictions, suicide and other social issues
- 1 year of recent experience in group facilitation or public speaking
- Ability to relate to clients in a non-judgmental manner, and to respect client confidentiality
- Experience in handling emergency situations, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and case management
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and leadership skills
- Ability to effectively communicate and represent the organization. Work independently and as part of a team
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check
- Standard First Aid/CPR, ASIST Certification, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver's license free from any restrictions
