ABOUT THE POSITION
Portage College has an exciting new opportunity for an Engagement Specialist. The Engagement Specialist is responsible for collecting, molding, and sharing stories that will showcase Portage College’s vision, mission and values. They will support Corporate events, College community initiatives, and partner engagements while searching for engaging stories. This role also creates internal and external communications, maintains a consistent brand image, and fosters positive relationships with key stakeholders, including employees, media, community members, students, alumni, and partners. Responsibilities include:
• Event Engagement: Strategically align and document corporate and partner events, ensuring high-quality photo and video coverage. Engage with attendees to capture and share their stories, contributing to compelling marketing content.
• Marketing & Promotions: Develop and implement promotional strategies for events and college messaging across social media, websites, and other channels. Create and maintain engaging content that adheres to brand guidelines. Update and manage website content, focusing on Events and News sections.
• Communications: Craft and manage communications that reflect the college’s vision and mission. Write press releases, video scripts, and newsletters. Oversee event calendars to keep stakeholders informed of key dates and initiatives. Provide media support and contribute to campaign development.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• A degree or diploma in public relations, journalism, communications, advertising or marketing with sufficient experience in writing.
• Two years of communications experience with a preference in journalism and story writing.
• Must have experience in graphic design, editing programs, media production and photography.
• Successful candidate must hold Class 5 driver’s license.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under strict deadlines and display keen problem-solving skills.
• Must be a creative thinker, collaborative team member, and independent worker.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Successful candidate will be required to provide a current police information check.
